Miles’s journey to Shadow Brigade didn’t start with a traditional drum corps background—or even the “right” instrument. As a trombone player, Miles faced a unique challenge, since his instrument isn’t commonly used in Drum Corps International. When he discovered the world of drum corps, he realized that pursuing this dream would mean starting from the ground up. Undeterred, Miles taught himself the baritone, practiced diligently, watched performance videos well into the night, and navigated a steep learning curve without knowing if his efforts would yield results.

Just three months later, Miles auditioned for the Phoenix Drum & Bugle Corps and earned a spot on his very first attempt. A defining moment arrived at the DCI World Championships in Chicago. Standing on the field after the Phoenix’s championship performance, Miles glanced around the stadium and marveled at how far he had come—from a small high school in the Midwest to one of the biggest stages in marching music. For Miles, that moment wasn’t an ending; it was inspiration to keep moving forward.

In 2026, Miles is once again embracing a challenge by seeking a position with Shadow Brigade, one of the most esteemed World Class organizations in Drum Corps International. He is thrilled to share that he has been accepted into the 2026 Shadow Brigade lineup—an accomplishment that reflects years of hard work, perseverance, and dedication to his art. Miles is deeply thankful for the support, encouragement, and opportunities that have guided him to this point in his musical journey, and he genuinely appreciates everyone who chooses to support him along the way. Contributions to this fundraiser will make his 2026 season with Shadow Brigade possible and enable him to continue striving for excellence at the highest level of marching music.
